Student Council in Our Lady’s Meadow NS
The election for this year’s Student Council took place on Wednesday October 15th and all the students in 3rd to 6th Class, present on the day, got a chance to cast their vote. This year’s Returning Officers were Chloe Dunne and Cara Roe (members of previous Student Councils)
There was a huge interest in representing the different classes as a member of the Student Council this year. A lot of children have been working very hard over the past few weeks preparing and presenting their speeches to their classmates. We were very impressed with the standard of speech-making throughout all class levels. The children who put themselves forward for election should be very proud of themselves and if they weren’t successful this year, they should try again next year.
Once all the children had voted, the Ballot Box was opened and all the votes were counted. It was a very tight call in almost all the classes and in some cases, transfers were needed!
By the end of the count the following children were elected to represent their classmates on this year’s Student Council:
Student Representing Junior Infants, Senior Infants, Ms Walsh’s Class, 1st Class and 2nd Class:
- Faye Dunne
- Valeria Shabanova
- Siobhán Fitzpatrick
3rd Class:
- Brayden Moran
- Judith Kennedy
4th Class:
- Kimberly Monahan-Carroll (Ms Delaney’s Class)
- Odhran Fox
- Lucy Mockler
5th Class:
- Brian Scully
- Naoise Rothwell
6th Class:
- Julia Clancy
- Katelyn Donohue
The Student Council will hold their first meeting with Ms Connolly and Mrs Manning in the coming days.
A Suggestion Box will be put into all the classroom so the pupils can make suggestions for topics to be discussed at meetings throughout the year.
