Student Council in Our Lady’s Meadow NS

The election for this year’s Student Council took place on October 3rd and 96% of all students in 3rd to 6th Class got a chance to cast their vote under the watchful eye of this year’s Returning Officers: Aoife Lawlor and Cara Roe (members of last year’s Student Council)

There was a big number of candidates this year and those children have been working very hard over the past few weeks preparing and presenting their speeches to their classmates. The standard of speech-making was very high throughout all class levels and those children who put themselves forward for election should be very proud of their efforts.

Once all the children had voted, the Ballot Box was taken to the count centre (Ms Lawlor’s Classroom) where each vote was checked and counted by the returning officers, with the assistance of  Ms. Lawlor and Mrs. Manning.

There were a few tight calls and in some cases the votes had to be rechecked a number of times. But once the returning officers were happy with the count the following pupils were declared elected and the result was announced by Mrs. Coe to the school.

3rd Class: Godfirst Ayodele (Mr Dollard’s Class), Iarlaith Dunne and Sarah Lawlor

4th Class: Chloe Dunne and Fionn Aylward

5th Class: Mark Thornton-Fisher and Patrick Shortall

6th Class: Leon O Hara and Diana Alksne

Representing the Junior School: (Junior Infants, Senior Infants, Ms Neary’s Class, 1st Class and 2nd Class: Rian Fox and Aishling Mahony

The Student Council will hold their first meeting with Ms Connolly and Mrs Manning in the coming days.

A Suggestion Box will be put into all the classroom so the pupils can make suggestions for topics to be discussed at meetings throughout the year.
